SPRING 2010 TRENDS AT SAKS FIFTH AVENUE
New York, NY — This season’s runways revealed three prevailing themes for Spring 2010: Safari Accents, Feminine Frills and Purity of Design.
Safari Accents is all about animal prints, military jackets and pops of bright color. Fringe detailing on long-strap bags and sandal booties round out your safari-ready gear.
Feminine Frills is all about lady-like accents like pleats, ruffles, bows, a soft muted color palette, sheer layered fabrics and floral prints on ready-to-wear and accessories. Mini-bags and lace-detailed shoes are the perfect soft touches to complete this look.
Purity of Design puts the emphasis on body conscious cuts. Think asymmetry, cutouts, banding, geometric shapes and the continuation of the strong shoulder.
Whether you go bold in animal print, dainty in ruffles, or alluring in a one shoulder-baring dress, don’t forget about these must haves for the season, all available at Saks Fifth Avenue in a wide range of styles from the world’s top designers.
The Shirtdress
Wear a shirtdress and achieve the chic simplicity of a button down shirt without worrying about the bottoms. Opt for a belt if you want a more contoured silhouette.
Shorts
From short shorts to slim Bermuda lengths, shorts are your staples for work days, weekends and even those evening cocktail parties.
The Sporty Jacket
Trenches, parkas, anoraks, fitted zip-fronts, and military styles. A range of options to keep you stylish and prepared for those unpredictable Spring days.
Sandal Booties
Power dressing for your feet is no longer for the winter. Make way for this sandal/boot hybrid for spring and summer. Slip on a pair with a stacked heel or stiletto, but don’t let your feet be caught without them.
The Long-Strap Bag
Pick one with a very long drop and wear it three ways: across the body, over the shoulder or tuck the strap inside to wear as a clutch.
Global Jewelry
Go for large, unfinished stones like coral, turquoise, and amber. Mix with layered gold tone chains to make a multicultural statement. Layer and stack for maximum impact.
Showpiece Belts
For Spring, these usual accents command a wardrobe on their own. Pick bold colors with hardware details. Changing your silhouette is a cinch: wear them high and lady-like or low slung for added attitude.
Crystal Clear
Look for clear embellishments on ready to wear and accessories in the form of Lucite, PVC and crystals, from simple detailing to entirely see through bags and shoe soles.
Asymmetry
If you haven’t embraced the one shoulder, here’s your second chance. Bare the other shoulder completely or meet halfway with a thin support strap.
