Educational and Fun Arturo’s Art & Me Class at Dallas Museum of Art!

August 17th, 2009

Margot and I highly recommend the Arturo’s Art & Me class at the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA)! We attended the
“Pack Your Bags” themed class this past Saturday and it both educational and fun! Leah Hanson, Manager of Early Learning Programs at the DMA was great! She read a related story and led the children on an interactive tour of three paintings depicting three very different vacation destinations. Then the children chose a work of art to serve as their own imagination vacation destination and wrote a postcard to a friend describing their trip! Next, the children created T-shirt souvenirs in the studio from their trip to the DMA! Parents were given a “Class Re-cap” which included suggested follow-up activities. Don’t miss the next opportunity to attend an Arturo’s Art & Me Class, Theme - Chocolate Mania:  Wednesday, September 9, Thursday, September 10 or Saturday, September 12 from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. DMA members free; nonmembers $10 (per pair).  Recommended for ages 3 - 5. Space is limited, so call 214.922.1822 right away! For more information, www.dm-art.org.

Over the Top Last Night…Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus!

August 1st, 2009

circus-001circus-004

We had an “Over the Top” time last night at the circus! My daughter, Margot, “thought it was great” and “the elephants” were her favorite! There were many new acts since the time I attended a couple of years ago! Lot of excitement, color and fun — well done! You’ll be amazed throughout the performance — especially by Super Silva as he walks upside down from the roof of the arena  and I still don’t understand how 7 motorcycles can race at full speed in a caged sphere without a collision! Be sure to arrive early for photos and participation with various acts and clowns! Through August 9 - American Airlines Center in Dallas and August 12 - August 16 - Fort Worth Convention Center Arena. http://www.ticketmaster.com/Ringling-Bros-and-Barnum-BaileyOver-the-Top-tickets/artist/1244295

Fabulous Family Fun Day at the Meadows Museum!

July 29th, 2009

Margot and I had a great time at Meadows Family Fun Day! Everything was very well organized and we both had a ball making the textured collages and creating styrofoam prints of Diego Rivera’s works. They also had craft activities and  scavenger hunts for older kids, which Margot hopes to participate in the years to come! The performers from the Mexico 2000 Ballet Folklorico exhibited gorgeous dresses and lively dancing as they promoted and practiced traditions of the Mexican Culture. At the end of the busy day I asked Margot what she liked most about the Museum and with a huge smile she replied “the dancers with pretty costumes and making prints!” Check out the next children’s event at the Meadow Museum: “drop-in” activity — recreate Diego Rivera’s works through the Art of Printmaking! Last Saturday Margot (3 years) and I attended Saturday Smiles, the  Bookmarks program at NorthPark Center! We loved Jungle Jim Klinger’s presentation — “Bugs of the World!” The butterflies were beautiful! Afterward, we had gelato at CIBUS! (FYI - they have about 8 dairy-free flavors. Perfect for those with allergies! Our favorite is watermelon!) Margot gave the program and the gelato two thumbs-up!
