Grand Celebration! Grand Re-Opening of Abbott Park in Highland Park!

The Grand Re-Opening of Abbott Park in Highland Park was great fun for all the families who attended! It was wonderful to see so many IN THE LOOP FAMILIES joining in the fun! New playground equipment was donated by IN THE LOOP MOM, Abby Olyan, in memory of her father, Rabbi Jordan Pearlson. If you didn’t make it, be sure to check out the new park equipment with your kids when you are in the Knox Street area! It is sure to be a good time! IN THE LOOP MOM, Abby Olyan, recently donated new park equipment for Abbott Park in Highland Park in memory of her father, Rabbi Jordan Pearlson. A few of the updates include the equipment pictured above as well as a handicapped swing! Join the Olyan family this Sunday for the “Grand Re-Opening of Abbott Park!” The fun begins at 1 pm and the dedication of the new playground by Highland Park Mayor William H. Seay, Jr. will occur at 2:15 pm! Activities/festivities include:  balloon artist, face painting, bounce slide, children’s toys and crafts, music and dancing, children’s yoga, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn/Adventure Kids Playcare, bubbles/Froggies 5&10, Starbucks, Celebrity Bakery and Café, Chili’s, On the Border, pediatric dentist, sunscreen station, Amy Columbus Photography, Sitter Central Dallas, IN THE LOOP KIDS, and much more! Reminder: Attend Hugh Fagan’s Bone Marrow Drive and potentially help Hugh and others, such as Eve, Age 2

I was contacted this week by an IN THE LOOP family and friend of Eve, age 2 of Cleveland, OH. Eve is suffering from acute leukemia and is also in need of a bone marrow transplant. There is an “emergency drive” to find a match for Eve on Sunday, May 17 and Monday, May 18 in Cleveland and Cambridge, MA (so let any of your friends in these cities know!). Additionally, by participating in Hugh Fagan’s Bone Marrow Drive tomorrow, your information will be registered with the National Bone Marrow Program. In the Loop Family Needs Help: Bone Marrow Donor Drive Continues for Hugh Fagan, Sunday May 17

Be the one to save a life! Hugh needs a stem cell transplant and there is no match in his family. Now, Hugh looks to his community for help. Only 3 out of 10 patients who need a transplant will find a match and we are determined to beat those odds! Hugh is of Jewish decent and there is a high likelihood of Hugh’s match also being Jewish. Therefore, we are reaching out to the Jewish community particularly. Tissue type is inherited, like eye or hair color. A person’s best chance of finding a genetic match is someone who shares the same ethnic and geographic ancestry. 3 Facts About the Registry and Donation: 1. IT’S EASY! A simple swab of your cheek is all that is necessary to register. 2. Stem cells are donated in a process very similar to plasma donation. NO SURGERY! 3. Hugh Fagan was diagnosed four weeks ago with acute leukemia. When Hugh’s doctors decide it is appropriate, he will need a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Members of his immediate family have been tested for the bone marrow transplant and they are not a match. Only 3 out of 10 patients who need a transplant will find a match and Hugh’s family and friends are determined to beat those odds! Your help is needed! Please consider being tested at the “Bone Marrow Drive for Hugh Fagan” this weekend. The process for getting “tested” is a simple cheek swab and, if you are a match, the donor process is a lot like giving blood. Friends and family are working diligently to underwrite the cost for testing, which is $25 per person. You could be the one to save a life!
