Kids do not have to be golfers to participate in the KidSwing Golf Tournament benefiting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC)! All skill levels are encouraged to participate! The tournament was founded in 2003 by former TSRHC patient Ben Sater. At age 11, when he discovered that TSRHC does not charge patient families for care, he decided to use his love of golf to give back to the hospital. KidSwing has since become an annual event, and last year it expanded into two tournaments, one in Dallas and one in McKinney. The seventh annual KidSwing-Dallas Golf Tournament is on June 15, 2009, at Brookhaven Country Club, and the second annual KidSwing-McKinney Golf Tournament will be on July 13, 2009, at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.

Both tournaments are nine-hole, best-ball scrambles for players ages 7 to 18 of all levels of golf ability. To date, the KidSwing tournaments have raised more than $660,000 for TSRHC. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 5! CLICK HERE for more details!

Reminder: Attend Hugh Fagan’s Bone Marrow Drive and potentially help Hugh and others, such as Eve, Age 2

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I was contacted this week by an IN THE LOOP family and friend of Eve, age 2 of Cleveland, OH. Eve is suffering from acute leukemia and is also in need of a bone marrow transplant. There is an “emergency drive” to find a match for Eve on Sunday, May 17 and Monday, May 18 in Cleveland and Cambridge, MA (so let any of your friends in these cities know!). Additionally, by participating in Hugh Fagan’s Bone Marrow Drive tomorrow, your information will be registered with the National Bone Marrow Program. Let’s do all we can to help Hugh, Eve, and others in need by being screened tomorrow! Be screened – Be the one to save a life! Read more about Eve: CLICK HERE. For information on Eve’s drives on Sunday, May 17 and Monday, May 18 as well as other dates/locations of her emergency driveCLICK HERE. In the Loop Family Needs Help: Bone Marrow Donor Drive Continues for Hugh Fagan, Sunday May 17

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Be the one to save a life! Hugh needs a stem cell transplant and there is no match in his family. Now, Hugh looks to his community for help. Only 3 out of 10 patients who need a transplant will find a match and we are determined to beat those odds! Hugh is of Jewish decent and there is a high likelihood of Hugh’s match also being Jewish. Therefore, we are reaching out to the Jewish community particularly. Tissue type is inherited, like eye or hair color. A person’s best chance of finding a genetic match is someone who shares the same ethnic and geographic ancestry. 3 Facts About the Registry and Donation: 1. IT’S EASY! A simple swab of your cheek is all that is necessary to register. 2. Stem cells are donated in a process very similar to plasma donation. NO SURGERY! 3. There is NO COST to the donor if you are a match. Friends and family of Hugh are funding the costs of registering. If you wish to contribute, the cost of each registry is $25. Read more: CLICK HERE. Sunday, May 17, 2009; 8 am - 1 pm; Jewish Community Center of Dallas, 7900 Northaven Road, Dallas 75225.

In the Loop Family Needs Help: Bone Marrow Donor Drive for Hugh Fagan

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Hugh Fagan was diagnosed four weeks ago with acute leukemia. When Hugh’s doctors decide it is appropriate, he will need a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Members of his immediate family have been tested for the bone marrow transplant and they are not a match. Only 3 out of 10 patients who need a transplant will find a match and Hugh’s family and friends are determined to beat those odds! Your help is needed! Please consider being tested at the “Bone Marrow Drive for Hugh Fagan” this weekend. The process for getting “tested” is a simple cheek swab and, if you are a match, the donor process is a lot like giving blood. Friends and family are working diligently to underwrite the cost for testing, which is $25 per person. You could be the one to save a life!
